Sports & Leisure Coordinator, Steve Evans, named as one of the nation’s most inspirational teachers.
Selected from thousands of nominations, Steve won a Gold Award in the Pearson National Teaching Awards for Excellence in Special Needs Education.
Steve was honoured alongside fellow Gold Winners across 15 categories as the best of the UK’s educators at the prestigious awards ceremony.
As Derwen College’s Sports & Leisure coordinator, Steve works with students with a wide variety of complex special educational needs and disabilities. He has a determination to convince every student that sport is for them, if they find the right sport. Steve’s impact on students can be ‘life-changing’ as he works tirelessly to ensure that every young person is included in the huge range of activities he provides and is able to benefit from regular exercise.
Derwen College Performing Arts and Learning for Life teacher Jessie Vaughan was also recognised with a Bronze Award in the Digital Innovator of the Year category.
