In 1942, Marina, Duchess of Kent becomes Derwen College’s Patron.

The Duchess first visits Derwen College on 20 September 1943.

Following the death of the College’s first Patron, Prince George, Duke of Kent, in 1942, members of the College’s Executive Committee invited Marina, Duchess of Kent becomes Derwen College’s Patron.

During her visit she was accompanied by Captain the Lord and Lady Herbert and the Earl of Dudley, Regional Commissioner. The College’s President Lord Baldwin was present, accompanied by Lady Baldwin.

Dame Agnes Hunt, Members of the Committee and various members of the staff were presented and the Duchess undertook at tour of the College, before going on to visit the Orthopaedic Hospital.
