Louise and Kate took part in activities to promote Nutrition and Hydration.

Health and wellbeing are an important part of learning for students at College. Which is why our nursing team hold regular workshops in addition to day-to-day health needs.

This week’s workshop, on Nutrition and Hydration, saw students participating in various activities and quizzes. These highlighted different food groups and the significance of a balanced diet. We were encouraged to discuss our health openly, even talking about the sometimes embarrassing topics of wee and poo. Students learned to recognise signs of poor nutrition and understood how crucial water is for their bodies.

Among the enthusiastic participants were Horticulture students Kaitland and Louise. Louise shared her excitement, saying, “We’ve learnt a lot about food and drink, and the importance of keeping hydrated, especially as the weather gets hotter.”  Kaitland added: “Vegetables are important. I like runner beans!” With their newfound knowledge and horticulture skills, we can’t wait to see them grow their own vegetables soon!
Lead Nurse Phoebe Irvine-Shuter was thrilled with the turnout and participation. “We’ve had many students taking part today, joining in with the activities. We set up tasks to help students take responsibility for their own health. It’s important not to shy away from talking about our bodies. We hope we made the issues fun while also teaching about good nutrition and hydration and how it can affect our bodies,” she said.
Looking ahead, the nursing team has more exciting workshops planned, covering topics such as oral health, men’s health, and women’s health. We’ll keep for more updates on how our students are learning to take charge of their health and well-being!
