We are often asked ‘who are your students?’
The simple answer is that there are no ‘typical’ students at Derwen College.
Derwen College offers residential and day placements to students with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
We welcome a very diverse student cohort, with no typical student.
Student abilities
Aged 16–25, young people join us from all over the UK on a day or residential basis. We welcome young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including, but not limited to; autism, physical disabilities and behaviours of concern.
Our students may have moderate, severe, complex or profound and multiple learning disabilities. Their abilities range from pre-entry (milestones 1–8), up to Level 1.
Entry requirements
There is no requirement for formal entry qualifications to Derwen College. All students must have an Education and Health Care Plan (if they reside in England) or an Individual Development Plan (if they reside in Wales).
Derwen College is unique and so are our students
We know that not one size fits all. There are a number of routes for progression vocationally or pre-vocationally, bespoke to individual needs, interests and aspirations. Because we are able to individualise the support and provision for each student, acceptance is based on individual assessment.
We work with our young people to support them to achieve what they want and challenge them to do more.
We’re confident that you will like what we do!
